These Breeder Subscription & Store Terms apply to all breeders who create a store or subscribe to any paid plan on Scaly Friends.
By registering as a breeder, creating a store, or purchasing a subscription, you agree to these terms.
1. Becoming a Breeder
To open a breeder store, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Provide accurate registration information.
- Comply with South African laws and provincial regulations.
- Accept the Marketplace Rules, Terms & Conditions, and Privacy Policy.
2. Your Store
Every approved breeder receives their own store where they can:
- Create a breeder profile.
- Upload reptiles for sale.
- Manage listings.
- Display contact information.
- Receive enquiries directly from buyers.
You are responsible for keeping your store information accurate and up to date.
3. Subscription Plans
Scaly Friends offers subscription plans that provide access to breeder store features.
Your chosen plan determines features such as:
- Number of active listings.
- Store features.
- Additional promotional tools (where available).

4. Subscription Payments
Subscription fees:
- Are payable in advance.
- Renew according to the selected billing cycle, unless cancelled.
- Must be paid to keep your breeder store active.
If a payment fails, access to certain features may be suspended until payment is received.
5. Store Suspension
Scaly Friends may suspend or remove a breeder store if:
- Subscription payments remain outstanding.
- Marketplace Rules are repeatedly violated.
- Fraudulent or misleading listings are identified.
- Animal welfare concerns are reported.
- South African laws are violated.
6. Listing Requirements
Every listing should include accurate information where applicable:
- Species
- Morph
- Genetics
- Sex
- Age or hatch date
- Feeding status
- Current photographs
- Price
- Availability
Misleading or intentionally inaccurate listings may be removed.
7. Direct Buyer Contact
Scaly Friends allows buyers to contact breeders directly using the contact methods provided by the breeder, such as:
- Contact forms
Breeders are expected to respond to enquiries professionally and within a reasonable time whenever possible.
8. Breeder Responsibilities
Breeders agree to:
- Treat buyers respectfully.
- Maintain high standards of animal welfare.
- Keep listings current.
- Remove sold reptiles promptly.
- Communicate honestly.
- Honour agreed sale terms.
- Comply with all applicable laws.
9. Animal Welfare
Breeders must:
- Sell only healthy reptiles.
- Provide appropriate care before sale.
- Accurately represent genetics and health.
- Never knowingly sell illegally obtained animals.
- Follow ethical breeding practices.
Animal welfare concerns may result in immediate review of a breeder’s account.
10. Store Content
Breeders retain ownership of:
- Store logos.
- Photographs.
- Listing descriptions.
By uploading content, breeders grant Scaly Friends permission to display it for the purpose of operating and promoting the marketplace.
11. Scaly Friends Verified
Breeders may apply for verification.
Verification helps build trust but does not guarantee:
- Sales.
- Business performance.
- Animal quality.
- Future conduct.
Scaly Friends may revoke verification where appropriate.
12. Cancellation
Breeders may cancel their subscription at any time.
Cancellation will prevent future renewals.
Subscription fees already paid are generally non-refundable unless required by law or otherwise stated.
13. Changes to Subscription Plans
Scaly Friends may update:
- Features.
- Pricing.
- Available plans.
Reasonable notice will be provided where practical before significant changes take effect.
14. Limitation of Liability
Scaly Friends provides the platform through which breeders and buyers connect.
We do not guarantee:
- Sales.
- Buyer enquiries.
- Store traffic.
- Search rankings.
- Business success.
Each breeder remains responsible for their own business and transactions.
15. Right to Refuse or Remove Stores
Scaly Friends reserves the right to refuse, suspend, or remove breeder stores that violate these Terms, the Marketplace Rules, or applicable laws.
